Slab Laying in Swindon & across our area

Reinforced concrete slabs and bases for buildings, garages and plant.

We form and pour reinforced concrete slabs and bases — for garages, outbuildings, extensions, sheds, hot tubs and machinery — with the correct sub-base, DPM, mesh or fibre reinforcement and finish.

Set out accurately, laid to level and cured properly, a good slab is the foundation everything else sits on.

We check what the slab needs to support before deciding on thickness, reinforcement and finish - a shed base is a different job to a garage floor rated for a car, or a plant base carrying vibration and point loads. Getting the DPM lapped correctly at this stage is what keeps damp out of the building above for good, so we don't rush that detail. For anything beyond a simple shed base, we'd recommend getting a quick word from a structural engineer on loading before we finalise the slab spec.

Slab Laying — your questions

What thickness will my slab be?

It depends on the load — a shed base differs from a garage or a plant base. We spec the thickness, sub-base and reinforcement to suit.

Do you include a damp-proof membrane?

Yes, where the slab is for a building we install a DPM lapped to the correct detail.

Can you pour a slab in winter?

Yes, with the right precautions - we monitor temperatures, can use additives to protect the curing concrete, and will time the pour to avoid the worst of any frost.

Do I need a slab or would a suspended floor suit my project better?

It depends on the ground - a slab is usually quicker and cheaper on firm, level ground, while block and beam suits poor or sloping ground or where you need a ventilated void. We'll advise once we've seen your site.

How much does a concrete slab cost?

It depends on the area, thickness and reinforcement needed for what it's supporting - a shed base costs far less than a reinforced garage floor. We'll quote based on what the slab needs to carry.
